-UNDER CONSTRUCTION-

A technique is a special skill or ability suited for combat that can be learned via special training. They work in many ways like a benefit. You spend 1-4 points to obtain a technique and then level that technique by spending additional points until it reaches level 5 (or whatever its max level is; 1 point per level). Some techniques will cost a single number and cannot level.

Unlike normal benefits, techniques are easier to obtain both as a player and as a writer. Samurai get 3 extra points for benefits every level, which may only be spent for these techniques. Furthermore, there are many discounts for these techniques depending on your clan, honor, reputation or other circumstance. You cannot discount a technique to 0 points. Therefore, techniques that start at rank 1 do not receive a discount at the first rank, but you will get the discount for future increases to that technique. You can receive extra training points by writing about your training or using the technique in a unique way, however it would have to be an exceptional chapter to receive such a lofty award.

So if a technique is 1-5, you'd have to pay 5 points to completely learn and master the technique. To get to rank 4 costs 4 points. To get to rank 3 costs 3 points, etc... To later increase your level from rank 3 to rank 4 costs 1 point.

If you wish to create your own technique, please post in the technique approval thread and the staff will take a look at your idea. If you feel a technique needs a change of any kind, please post the idea there as well.

Note that you must have station points to create your own technique that your character (or an NPC you control) creates him or herself. A technique created with a staff member above is a technique available to all players. A technique created with station points is exclusive to your school, style and/or faction and only you and/or those you permit may learn and/or teach it.

Iaido [1-5]
Passive Technique

Prerequisites: Level 3, At least 40 honor.

Discount: No Honor and Level requirements for Crane or Ki-Rin Clan members. Minus 1 honor for each point of reputation with the empire (the Ki-Rin clan)

Description: Those who practice iaijutsu practice the art of the "fast draw." Iaijutsu is only practiced by samurai and katana are the only weapons that are used. It is a formal duel that must follow explicit rules, or the offending party is dishonored and expected to commit seppuku. A samurai with his sword in its saya must use Iaijutsu if he wishes to attack in the current round of combat, or must spend the round drawing and preparing his weapon. A drawn weapon cannot be used with the Iaijutsu skill. Two samurai stand a few feet apart with their katana sheathed, sizing one another up. Then, in a furious explosion of motion, both suddenly draw their swords and attack.

Iaijutsu in its practical form is best used when you are caught by suprise or for catching an opponent off guard when your sword is still sheathed. It should be noted that one should never re-sheath their sword to perform another Iaijutsu strike--to do so is as foolish as it is dishonorable (as if saying you can remove your main form of defense against a foe because they are so weak).

Ranks: (Subject to staff approval at all ranks.)
1. You are a beginner. You know the basics but have no real experience.
2. You have lived through a fair number of duels and are an Iaijutsu Adept.
3. You are well versed in the art. Few would want to duel you.
4. You are highly skilled in Iaijutsu. You can beat almost anyone save the masters of the art.
